The Hobart Real Tennis Club is soon to commence its Singles Club Championships for 2017 with the first of these events to kick off from March 1st. Matches will be organised around each individual’s schedule – but members wishing to play in these events must make every effort to make themselves available for their respective matches – particularly those playing in multiple events.
All matches will be the best of three sets (except Class 1 Singles which shall be best of five sets). Members playing three and five set matches will be charged for two hours court time. A $20.00 entry fee will be charged for each event to aid in trophy costs.

The following rules are intended to avoid any disputes which may arise during the course of club championships. The Tennis Committee will resolve all disputes.
HRTC Club Championship Rules:
1. The Draw
All the championships will be drawn in February each year. Grading will be based on player’s handicaps as of the time of draw. All HRTC club members will be entered into their respective grades unless otherwise stated. A $20 entry fee will be charged per event. The grades will be filled as follows:

|Ladies||All Ladies||3 sets|
|Masters||Players aged 50 or older as of 1st of February||3 sets|
|Veterans||Players aged 65 or older as of 1st of February||3 sets|
|Juniors||Players aged 26 or younger as 1st of February||3 sets|
**Players wishing to do so may play in the grade above the one they qualify for as well as their own.
In all championships, players will be seeded based on handicaps – with qualifiers for the first round being played as necessary.
Each player is to make every reasonable effort to have each match arranged. The Pros will make at least two attempts to confirm each match with the players concerned. Once a match is confirmed, a player may cancel once without penalty, provided this is done at least 24 hours before the match. On the second such occasion, the player will forfeit the match.
Two hours will be allocated for all matches – with player’s accounts being billed for two hours regardless of the duration of the match.
Matches running into the next court booking may be completed with the consent of the players with the booking. If a match cannot be completed in these circumstances, then it will be continued at a later date. For the purposes of scheduling, the continuation will be played with the scores starting from where the original match left off.
The following penalties will be applied:
• A late arrival is where a player is not on court ten minutes after the scheduled start of the match, based on the clubhouse clock. After this ten-minute period, one game will be awarded to the player’s opponent(s) every three minutes until the player is on court.
• A player who is not on court for a confirmed match will forfeit the match.
• A player who cannot complete a match which has started will forfeit the match. The only exception is where the match is not completed before the next booking (see above).
Players will mark each of their own matches up until final stage where the Club Professionals shall mark each Club Championship final.
Further queries regarding Club Championship matches will be directed to the HRTC Tennis Committee. All current HRTC members will automatically be entered into their respective events unless otherwise notified.
If members do not wish to enter these events, and in order to prevent walkovers, members are urged to contact Brett or Pat at the Club before 1 March 2017 and inform of their intention to abstain from these events.
